What are the things you need to keep in mind when creating your site's homepage? Here's what to look out for before designing your website home page:
Do you want it simple or a little more complicated to attract users as well as search engines? The answer is neither. In fact, there’s no such thing as “one size fits all” when it comes to webpage design. Your site-design-goal can differ significantly from another person’s site. To draw inspiration from any other site, you should consider its design principles and focus on some of them that work best for your own site. Page Title – Make sure the title of the site is easy for readers to scan and understand to click on the web page. Create CTAs (Call to Action) and buttons that encourage people to click-through to other pages. Also make sure the button(s) is easy to remember. Pages That Have Links Are Important To A Site’s Performance So let's say that we have two pages with different URLs that both have the same subject at first glance. But if one link leads to it and the other to a totally new URL that nobody knows about, then the visitor will be confused and may never even land on those pages! Use H1 tags (Highlighted Headings) to give each page its own name, highlight the headings, and break them down into subheadings so that visitors can jump to the right place. This makes navigation much easier for visitors by adding visual information to the links and subheads. Don’t forget that headers should be positioned properly! Linked images, videos, and sound files are excellent tools! And they can be used in many ways! How to structure site information? Which format should I use?
It depends! There aren't any clear rules on how to organize content on the web – the layout and formatting are completely personal to whoever is creating it. However, there are some common guidelines that can help you think through organizing content. These guidelines can be helpful in deciding on which type of content goes where and for how many pages/posts/articles.
You can organize your site information in many ways:
Category-based : the way you arrange related topics allows us to find similar topics or articles with ease. For instance, if you have a fashion blog, the categories can be: clothes, dress, accessories, footwear, shoes, etc. You can find more about various category types in a post on the topic here. They are also useful for SEO purposes since keyword matching should work better if you have related topics arranged well throughout the article. By using these categories, users can easily navigate to the relevant articles/articles and find their desired destination. Category order : it helps readers find the article they want faster and saves time to scroll back and forth through multiple pages. Many web browsers allow you to sort pages alphabetically by clicking on the top of the page to see the article at the very end. Search engine crawlers only show website results to provide the fastest experience for users to find exactly what they were looking for. When writing your article, consider putting the most important information in the body, but leaving space for longer descriptions and pictures in the header. Articles can be organized similarly by having a header and a main body, or alternatively have sections and subsections within main blocks. Subheader (title block): main block titles are usually displayed below (at the bottom). All the articles in the main block are titled with a heading that contains the main title, the date, title, and keyword. Each article can be arranged in either a sidebar or a footer depending on which approach works best in terms of accessibility and usability. Footer - Footer shows main block's header plus link to the next section. Sidebar - The side bar at the bottom of each article lists a list of smaller blocks in the main body. The side bar can contain additional content like links, images, and more. List of Articles (Topical Categories) : the list of topical contents contains other categories. Commonly referred to as meta data, these categories display relevant articles that pertain to the same topic, which makes the process of reading quicker and more convenient. For instance, if you have a fashion blog, a product review blog, and a beauty tutorial blog, the three articles might have a bunch of subcategories within them – product reviews, tutorials, and beauty tips. These categories can provide direct links to related articles and are especially handy when the goal of your content strategy is to showcase a specific brand, service, or store. Related Topics: The term'related topics' refers to the different articles on similar subjects that all serve the same purpose – tell the reader about a specific topic or news item. Meta data includes links to the corresponding source of the respective article. Meta data can be broken down further into individual subcategories that are often linked with others. This helps reduce the amount of time spent surfing the internet because every single article includes a hyperlink to the associated posts. Tags: tags help categorize similar content by identifying the exact topic. Using tags in articles, whether technical or informational, can improve visibility. Tag length should be limited to 15 characters but must include relevant information necessary for the viewer's understanding. Short tags or less content can actually hurt your content's credibility (see number 5). But tags can also help generate valuable traffic that's worth spending precious time on. Blog Highlights / Banners: Banners can go under or above the banner. Depending on your hosting provider's plan they can be really effective at increasing your reach while minimizing costs. Banner templates come with different formats. One option is the classic bifold design. Another popular format is the carousel. Both are easy to implement in WordPress and easy to follow by anyone without professional website design experience! They are primarily designed for social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. The banners themselves represent posts, stories, or blog posts. As mentioned before, the primary goal of a business is to increase sales online, so banners can be placed strategically across different sections of the site, helping visitors discover the different sections they need to visit in detail. With the correct branding, you can really boost traffic through high-quality targeting. Banner sizes vary between 2K and 6K pixels (for best placement for mobile devices). Adding images can have a huge impact on sales even though it might seem counterintuitive. An image can be particularly powerful when paired with a rich anchor text. Take advantage of imagery! Images with text-laden captions or text only will be more likely to bring people to your landing page, and the opposite will happen if your target audience uses text to skim your content. Use black and white PNG, JPG, or GIF graphics and don't let yourself lose your personality! Think of all aspects that influence our decision to purchase a specific item. Including colors, textures, shapes, and patterns can enhance visuals or create meaning and intrigue for viewers to buy from. Color Contrast: use contrasting colours to draw attention to certain details. You can do this by including different shades of color on the left and right side of the screen. Bold text can also serve the same purpose if it is used correctly. While it may not be necessary for everything, it definitely improves readability. Text alone isn't enough if you want to stand out from the crowd. Consider your language tone, sentence structures, and the overall structure. Remember that everyone reads differently and has different expectations and preferences. Don't confuse your audience with jargon! Write with clarity and style, be consistent, and think of your readers as they would a real human being (though if you've considered some of their needs you should be familiar with how to customize your website's user experience). Don't Forget About Visual Content, Design, and User Experience (UX) While you're building and optimizing your website, don’t overlook UX.
